T-Shirt Yarn

The other day, I had 3 T-shirts.
Yellow, Rust, and Very-Orange.
100% Cotton.

Then, I cut them up ... each t-shirt into a single strand of inch-wide fabric. (Easier than it sounds, really.)

Then comes the fun of - - - stretching - - - the "yarn" so it curls ...

And, since I don't have any projects going right now that need this much orange or yellow, I'll be listing these on eBay or Etsy soon, in case somebody else does!

  1. How did you cut it so it was all in one long string? Also, have you knitted or crocheted with this before? I am thinking I have found a good use for all of my old T-shirts.

    1. In a previous post about t-shirt-yarn projects (located here: http://prosperitystuff.blogspot.com/2012/05/t-shirt-yarn-rug.html ), I mentioned some of the inspiration for the t-shirt-yarn rug I crocheted for my kitchen. In that post, I included a link to a "how-to-cut-t-shirt-yarn" tutorial that someone else wrote (here: http://mousechirpy-polkadotpineapple.blogspot.com/2008/03/tutorial-t-shirt-yarn.html ). And, yes, I love to crochet with t-shirt-yarn - it's soft and bulky, and crochets very nicely!

  2. Brilliant! I'm gonna sneak some old t-shirts that have seen better days from my hubby of course! Such a great way to 'repurpose' an item!
